About

Hello, I’m Kit.

I build websites and then I look after them. That second part is the bit most people end up missing.

The short version

I’ve spent about five years building sites and web apps. I also set up and run the servers they live on, so I can offer the whole thing as one job: design, build, hosting and looking after it.

I started out building things to impress employers. These days I’d rather work directly with small businesses and people making interesting things, where one person can make a real difference to how the business runs.

I’m based in Paignton in South Devon. Local clients, I’m happy to meet in person. Everyone else, a video call works fine.

When I’m not building sites, I’m swimming, biking and running for triathlons, or in the workshop with a 3D printer, an Arduino and far too many Raspberry Pis.

How I work

A few things I stick to.

  • You talk to me

No account managers or juniors. The person you email is the person doing the work.

  • Plain English

I’ll explain what I’m doing and why, without the jargon. Ask me anything.

  • I’ll say if it’s not right

If a plugin, a template or another developer would serve you better, I’ll tell you.

For the curious

You don’t need to know any of this to work with me.

Sites are built with Next.js, React and TypeScript, with PostgreSQL where there’s data to store. They run on Ubuntu servers I set up and manage on DigitalOcean, behind Nginx, with my own monitoring and backups.

Let’s talk about your project.

Tell me what you’re making and what the site needs to do. I read everything and reply within one working day.
